Just a friendly warning/reminder…

Water heaters tend to respond to the barometric pressures.  When the barometric pressure changes up and down like it does in the spring, it puts pressure on your water heater, which in turn can cause it to leak. We are doing water heater replacements on a daily basis right now.  So be sure and keep and eye on yours so you’re not getting a flooded basement.

Other signs your water heater is starting to deteriorate are if you hear a grumbling or popping noise.  These should not be ignored.

We highly recommend if you have your water heater in the basement, that anything on the floor is protected from moisture.  When a water heater suddenly leaks, it can be a large volume of water that a floor drain can’t handle and will cover a large area around it, even going into adjoining rooms if the floor isn’t level and traveling a long distance.  Flooring and baseboards can also be soaked which will cause molding.

There are alarms available that you can put on the floor by your water heater and have the alarm in another area of your house so you can hear it if there is moisture on the floor.
